Gulbarga

Gulbarga is a city in the southern state of Karnataka, India. The city is a perfect blend of history and culture. The town has immense religious importance as well. Famous for its numerous temples, Gulbarga is a popular tourist attraction.

The city was originally known as Kalaburagi. Kal means “stone” in Kannada while “buragi” means “fort”. It was renamed as Gulbarga which translates to “the city of flowers and gardens” in Urdu. The city is a center of Islamic art and architecture. Its historical forts and mausoleums will take one back in time to a different era altogether. Most of these structures have been built by the Bahmani rulers.

There are a number of tourist attractions in Gulbarga. The town houses the famous Gulbarga Fort. The Buddha Vihar, Sri Hulakantheshwar Temple, Sharana Basaveshwara Temple and the Gulbarga Mosque are popular pilgrimage sites. The town’s numerous forts and tombs are also worth seeing.
