Orang National Park

The Orang National Park also called Rajiv Gandhi Orang National Park that's located at the north bank of the Brahmaputra River inside the Darrang and Sonitpur districts of Assam, India, covers a place of 78.81 square kilometers. It turned into installed as a sanctuary in 1985 and d a country wide park on thirteen April 1999.The park has a rich vegetation and fauna, along with great Indian one-horned rhinoceros, pygmy hog, elephants, wild buffalo and tigers. It is the simplest stronghold of rhinoceros at the north bank of the Brahmaputra River. The park has a chequered history of habitation.

Up to 1900, it changed into inhabited via the neighborhood tribes. On account of a deadly disease, the tribal population abandoned the location. However, in 1919 the British d it as Orang Game Reserve vide word No. 2276 R dated 31 May 1915. The recreation reserve came below the manager of the wild existence wing of the State Forest Department to meet the necessities of the Project Tiger. It became set up as a wild life sanctuary in 1985, vide notification No. FRS 133/85/5 dated 20 September 1985. But in 1992, the park became renamed as Rajiv Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary but this movement had to be reversed due to public strain against the renaming. Finally, the sanctuary changed into d as National Park in 1999 vides notification no. FRW 28/90/154 dated thirteen April 1999.
