Surat

Surat is one of the famous metropolitan city in Gujarat in terms of its economical and historical prospect. It is an INDIAN port city previously known as SURYAPUR. Surat ranks the 3^rd cleanest city of INDIA and the 4^th fastest growing city in the world. It is 8^th largest city and 9^th largest urban agglomeration in INDIA. Apart from its enhancement, Surat is entitled with three titular namely, “Diamond City of INDIA”, “Silk City of INDIA” and “The City of Sun”.

Surat is mainly a commercial center for textile and new textile background and perchance the biggest manufacturer of diamond, where about 90% of world’s rough diamond is found here. Surat was once devastated by the Portuguese empire in the 1500s, where the Portuguese traveler Duarte Barbosa described Surat as an important sea port frequented by many ships from Malabar and across the world.

Till then Surat has grown extensively and in the early 1700s Surat stabilized a major growth irrespective of the industrial hub. Surat resides many museum, statues and ashram as it coincide the birth place of freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi.
